PUBLIC NOTICE Pursuant to the Surface Mining Conservation & Reclamation Act, notice hereby is given that Mountaineer Mining Corporation, 1010 Garrett Shortcut Road, Berlin, PA 15530, has made application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for a change in land use for SMP #56090106. SMP #56090106 – Leydig Mine was renewed on February 8, 2022. The requested change in land use for is from Woodland to Cropland. The receiving stream for the permit area is Buffalo Creek. The operation is located in Brothersvalley Township, Somerset County. The permit area is situated just south of Berlin, PA and is roughly bisected by SR 160. The Berlin, PA 7.5 U.S.G.S. topographic map contains the area described. A copy of the land use change application is available for public inspection at the Cambria District Office, DEP, Bureau of District Mining Operations, 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931. Written comments, objections, or a request for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to the District Mining Manager at the above address no later than thirty (30) days following the final publication date of this notice. Any correspondence must include the person's name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement as to the nature of the objection.
