The overflow occurred at approximately 4:00 AM on April 14, 2026, until 7:30 AM. A high amount of inflow was experienced due to high rainfall amounts and the ground already being saturated from rainfall in the days prior. Discharging sump pump water into a sanitary sewer system is illegal and can overload the system. The sanitary sewer system and seepage cells are designed for the expected sewage flows, not to ground or rain water. When sump pumps and perimeter drain tiles are connected to the sanitary sewer system, the result is both an overloaded sewer system and overloaded operation of the lift stations. All necessary steps are being taken to limit any public health hazard or potentially harmful effects on the environment. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been notified.
