PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE TO CONTROL NOXIOUS WEEDS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to City of Manitowoc property owners, lessees, and occupants to destroy all noxious weeds on such properties before the plants bloom, and that all noxious weeds and grass over eight inches (8”) in height must be cut or destroyed within 48 hours of written notice placed on the violating property by the Department of Public Works. The noxious weeds are: perennial sow thistle, wild and Indian mustard, quack grass, ragweed, Canada thistle, leafy spurge, field bindweed, grass over 8” tall, any weed designated as a noxious weed by the Department of Natural Resources by rule. Weeds shall be controlled at such times and in such manner as will effectively prevent such plants from maturing to the bloom stage. This is set forth in the Wisconsin State Statute 66.0407.
Any noxious weeds not attended to within this time limit shall be taken care of by the Department of Public Works or their contractor. The property owner shall be assessed a minimum assessment of $470 plus time and material over 2 hours. Weed notices are placed on the property as a result of citizen complaint and department observation of properties not in compliance. Subsequent violations will be cut without notice.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that it is unlawful to deposit grasses or weeds in the street or other public place in the City of Manitowoc. Any person causing or ordering the same to be done shall be subject to a fine according to the Municipal Code.
