Amarillo MPO Call for Projects
Re: Amarillo MPO's 2025 Category 7 (Surface Transportation Block Grant), Category 9 (Transportation Alternative) Program Call for Projects
To All Interested Parties:
The Amarillo MPO has announced a call for projects for Category 7, and Category 9 funding. The Category 7 funding authorizes the expenditure of federal funds for highway related construction and improvements on federal-aid routes and bridges located on or off the federal aid system within the approved urban boundary. Category 9 funding provides funding to plan for and construct a variety of alternative transportation projects that improve safety and mobility for non-motorized travelers and mitigate congestion by providing safe alternatives to motor vehicle transport.
Through Amarillo MPO's 2025 call for projects, the MPO will select projects as defined in the MPO's Category 7 and Category 9 project selection process for recommendation to the Amarillo MPO Policy Committee. Projects located in the Amarillo Urban Study Area may be submitted under the current program call.
Applications for funds administered through this call must be submitted in the form prescribed by Amarillo MPO's Category 7 and Category 9 project selection process. The program guides include detailed information about eligibility requirements, specific procedures applicable to this call for projects, and evaluation criteria. As a stakeholder in the transportation planning process, the Amarillo MPO is requesting that you identify needed transportation projects that can be implemented within the Amarillo Metropolitan Area Boundary. Blank applications can be obtained by contacting MPO staff at 806-378-6293 or by email at amarillompo@amarillo.gov.
Keep in mind that federal highway funds can only be used on highway or street facilities that are classified as Major Collector or above on the functional classification maps approved by the Federal Highway Administration. There is no guarantee that the submitted project will be selected for funding, but if you believe the project is needed now or in the future, submit it for consideration. In general, the available funds are an 80/20 match program, meaning federal funds cover no more than 80% of total cost of the project or the project phase that is the subject of the request.
The completed application must be received by Amarillo MPO, as outlined in the application instructions, no later than 5:00 p.m., CDT, on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Your interest in Amarillo MPO's call for projects is appreciated. If you have any questions regarding the process, ranking criteria, or public involvement program, please contact me at 806-378-4219.
