NOTICE OF PENDING
APPLICATION FOR
PROPOSED DREDGING
Ashley Kiepczynski, on behalf of the City of Oak Creek, 8040 South 6th Street, Oak Creek, WI 53154 has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a dredging permit. The project is located on the Oak Creek O19A Tributary located in the NW 1/4, NE 1/4, Section 21 Township 05 North, Range 22 East in City of Oak Creek, Milwaukee County.
The City of Oak Creek is proposing to remove a concrete structure that was built in the 1960s in the Oak Creek O19A Tributary. Water is seeping under and around the concrete and it has become a safety hazard. The concrete section depths are unknown, but a conservative estimate would result in about 152 cubic yards of material being removed and a length of about 250 linear feet of the stream being impacted. Concrete will be removed using an excavator and hauled off site via dump trucks. The concrete will be removed along with its base material and the contractor will backfill with streambed material. The work will be completed during low flow/dry conditions in the fall/early winter to minimize impacts on the waterway. Temporary erosion control measures consist of a tracking pad near the project exit on E. Stonegate Drive, straw wattle for the storm sewer outlet that discharges near the construction access route, and the necessary equipment for dewatering. Cofferdams will be placed upstream and downstream of the work area and any active flow will be bypassed around the site. Any dewatering will follow WDNR Technical Standards. Permanent erosion control measures consist of Class II Type C erosion control mat for any areas outside of the stream banks that were disturbed as part of the construction process.
The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and the public informational hearing. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11, 30.20(2), 30.208, Wis. Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code.
The Department has made a tentative determination that it will issue the permit for the proposed activity.
