LEGAL NOTICE
NOTLICE OF RECEIPT OF TAX ROLL AND WARRANT
TAKE NOTICE, that I, Julie A. Trudeau, the undersigned Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Chenango, County of Broome and State of New York, have duly received the tax roll and warrant for the collection of taxes within the Town of Chenango for the year 2026 and that I or a representative will attend at Broome County Office Building, Real Property Tax Department, 2nd floor, 60 Hawley Street, Binghamton, New York and also at the Oakdale Mall lower rear entrance, in said Village of Johnson City, from January 2nd 2026, at the following times each day, except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, for the purpose of receiving the taxes listed on the roll.
MONTH OF JANUARY: at the Broome County Real Property Tax Department from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm Monday through Friday also at the Oakdale Commons lower rear entrance, every Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:45pm.
MONTH OF FEBRUARY: at the Broome County Real Property Tax Department from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm Monday through Friday also at the Oakdale Commons Monday, February 2nd and the following Fridays: February 6th, 13th, 20th , and 27th from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm.
AND LAST, MONTH OF MARCH: at the Broome County Real Property Tax Department from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm Monday through Friday also at the Oakdale Commons Monday, March 2nd and the following Fridays: March 6th, 13th, 20th , 27th and Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that taxes may be paid on or before January 31st or the 30th day from the first publication of the notice, whichever is later, without charge of interest. On all taxes received after such date, there shall be added interest of 1% if paid on or before March 2nd and an additional 1% for each additional month or fraction thereof thereafter until such taxes are paid or until the return of unpaid taxes to the county treasurer pursuant to law.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that section 987 (I) of the Real Property Tax Law requires the collecting officer, on or after the 31st day following the expiration of the period during which taxes may be paid without interest, to mail a notice to each owner of real property upon which taxes remain unpaid on the roll. Such notice must state, among other things, that the taxes on the property have not been paid and if said taxes should have been paid through a real property escrow account to immediately notify the holder of the account that the taxes have not yet been paid. The expense of mailing such notice shall be an additional penalty of $1.00 chargeable against the parcel.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that pursuant to section 922 (I-a) of the Real Property Tax Law that any taxpayer who owns residential real property consisting of no more than three family dwelling units and who is 65 or older, wishing to participate in a third party notification procedure may obtain an application form from the Town Assessor at the Chenango Town Hall, 1529 NYS Route 12, in the Town of Chenango. Further, the undersigned collecting officer will mail an application form to any eligible taxpayer who requests the same and who includes a self-addressed envelope with such request.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that pursuant to the provisions of law the tax roll of the Town of Chenango will be returned to the County Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the County of Broome on the 1st day of April 2026.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that you may make partial payments on your town and county taxes. In order to do so, the Collector/Receiver must be paid at least 50% of the tax bill during the month of January. The balance is due with appropriate interest by March 31st, 2026.
