A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Montgomery County; to provide for the creation, funding, and operation of the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation Office and Fund.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a)(1) The Montgomery County Commission shall create the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation Fund. The monies in the fund may be expended by the members of the delegation to support the operation of the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation Office.
(2) Upon receipt of any monies distributed to Montgomery County pursuant to Section 40-25-82, Code of Alabama 1975, the county commission shall deposit up to five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per calendar year into the fund. Any additional monies received shall be deposited in the county general fund.
(b)(1) The Montgomery County Commission shall employ a full-time office manager and two full-time administrative assistants to assist in the daily management of the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation Office.
(2) The commission shall be responsible for the wages and benefits of the office employees. The wages and benefits shall be set by the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation in consultation with the commission.
(3) The office employees shall not be subject to the personnel board created pursuant to Section 45-51A-32.110, Code of Alabama 1975.
(4) The office employees shall be selected by the members of the delegation and shall serve at the pleasure of the delegation.
(5) The office employees shall report to the chair of the delegation, and the duties of the office employees shall be limited to the support of the members of the delegation and the delegation office.
(c) The largest municipality in Montgomery County shall provide adequate space for the office, including telephone service, Internet service, electricity, water, and any other necessary utility services.
Section 2. This act shall become effective on October 1, 2026.
