ORDINANCE NO. 2026-3 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A DUTY TO REMOVE ICE AND SNOW FROM CITY SIDEWALKS AND AROUND FIRE HYDRANTS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on February 17, 2026, Ordinance 2026-3 was adopted by the City Council of the City of St. Augusta. This ordinance establishes a duty for the owner or tenant of the abutting private property, within 48 hours after such snow or ice ceases to be deposited, to clear public sidewalks and within a two-foot radius of all fire hydrants and from such two-foot radius to the traveled portion of the abutting roadway when such sidewalk or fire hydrant is located on or abutting to the owner's property. The ordinance permits the City to specially assess the cost to the City of removing such snow and ice if the property owner or tenant fails to do so within 48 hours. The ordinance also declares it a misdemeanor for a person to deposit snow or ice in a roadway or on a sidewalk and permits the City to recover to costs of removing such snow or ice from whom ever deposits it on a roadway or sidewalk.
