RESOLUTION NO. 5990 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, ARIZONA, REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 5968; PROVIDING NOTICE OF THE PRIMARY AND GENERAL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON JULY 21, 2026, AND NOVEMBER 3, 2026, RESPECTIVELY; DESIGNATING THE PURPOSE OF THE ELECTION AND THE DEADLINE FOR VOTER REGISTRATION; DESIGNATING THE PLACE AND DATE FOR CANDIDATES TO FILE NOMINATION PAPERS; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO ANY AGREEMENTS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR SUCH ELECTIONS.   WHEREAS, the holding of Primary and General Elections is enabled by law and prescribed by the City of Chandler Charter; and   WHEREAS, the Arizona legislature approved election House Bill 2022 which was signed by Governor Hobbs on February 6, 2026 with an emergency clause making House Bill 2022 effective immediately; and   WHEREAS, the term of Mayor and the terms of three Councilmembers will expire in January 2027.   NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, as follows:   Section 1. That July 21, 2026, is hereby set as the time for holding the Primary Election in the City of Chandler for the purpose of electing one Mayor and three Councilmembers. Any candidate for the office of mayor and/or councilmember may be declared elected at the Primary Election if he/she receives a majority of the votes cast. If at the Primary Election there are any offices to which no candidate was declared elected, then a runoff (General) election will be held on November 3, 2026. Section 2. The last day to register to vote is June 22, 2026 to be eligible to vote in the Primary Election and October 5, 2026, to be eligible to vote in the General Election. Section 3. That candidates seeking municipal office may obtain nomination materials by contacting the Chandler City Clerk, at 175 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, Arizona. Candidates may file the nomination materials at the Chandler City Clerk’s Office beginning February 21, 2026, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 23, 2026. Section 4. The City Clerk is authorized to enter into any agreements with the Maricopa County Elections Department and any necessary vendors to provide election services for the July 21, 2026 Primary Election and November 3, 2026 General Election.   PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, this 23rd day of February 2026. Que el 21 de julio de 2026, por este medio queda establecido como la fecha para llevar a cabo la Elección Primaria en la Ciudad de Chandler con el propósito de elegir a un Alcalde y a tres Miembros del Concilio. Cualquier candidato para el cargo de alcalde y/o de miembro del concilio podrá ser declarado/a electo/a en la Elección Primaria si obtiene la mayoría de los votos emitidos. Si en la Elección Primaria hay cualquier cargo para el cual no se haya declarado a un/a candidato/a electo/a, entonces se llevará a cabo una elección de desempate (General) el 3 de noviembre de 2026. Sección 2. El último día para registrarse para votar es el 22 de junio de 2026 para ser elegible para votar en la Elección Primaria y el 5 de octubre de 2026 para ser elegible para votar en la Elección General. Sección 3. Que los candidatos postulándose para un cargo municipal pueden obtener los materiales de nominación contactando a la Escribana de la Ciudad de Chandler en 175 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, Arizona. Los candidatos pueden registrar los materiales de la nominación en la Oficina de la Escribana de la Ciudad de Chandler a partir del 21 de febrero de 2026, pero no más tarde de las 5:00 p.m. del 23 de marzo de 2026. Sección 4. La Escribana de la Ciudad está autorizada a celebrar cualquier acuerdo con el Departamento de Elecciones del Condado Maricopa y con cualquier proveedor necesario para proveer los servicios electorales para la Elección Primaria del 21 de julio de 2026 y la Elección General del 3 de noviembre de 2026.
