Register: portal.ct.gov/DOTPOMFRET0111-0128
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community with an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. A Q&A session will immediately follow the presentation.
The purpose of this project is to eliminate the weight restriction, eliminate the scour critical condition, widen the roadway, and improve the hydraulic performance of Bridge No. 06991, Day Road over Wappoquia Brook. The proposed project includes the removal and replacement of the existing 34-foot-long bridge with a 36-foot long prestressed concrete adjacent deck unit bridge that provides a 34-foot clear hydraulic opening. The project will also include replacement of the rail system with a metalized 3-tube open bridge rail system, approach guiderail system, and end treatments to meet current MASH/NCHRP 350 standards, and full depth pavement reconstruction of the approaches within the 410’ project limits. Maintenance and protection of traffic will be accomplished with a 2.6-mile detour.
Right-of-way impacts are anticipated to include partial takes (2 properties), slope easements (4 properties), temporary construction easements (4 properties), guiderail end anchorage easements (2), and a drainage right-of-way easement (1).
Construction is expected to start in Spring 2029, depending on funding, right-of-way acquisition, and permits. The estimated cost is $3.2 Million, with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
The public can submit comments and questions during the two-week public comment period following the meeting. Direct comments and questions by April 16, 2026 to
