ORDINANCE NO. 25-SEWER CODE-979
ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER XIII, SECTION 13.1 OF THE OAKLAND CODE REGARDING SEWER FEES
The purpose of this Ordinance is to amend the Borough Code to revise the Schedule of Sewer Fees charged to residential and commercial users of the Borough sanitary sewer system.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the annual service charges will be modified as follows:
Residential Users:
Base Charge: increased to $1,250.00 per residential unit per yearUsage Charge: $13.30 per 1,000 gallons of potable water consumed, calculated using the established consumption formula in the Code
Commercial Users:
Base Charge: $1,250.00 per commercial account per yearUsage Charge: $13.30 per 1,000 gallons of potable water consumed, calculated using the established consumption formula in the Code
A connection fee of $500.00 remains due at the time of issuance of a sewer connection permit.
The adjustments are intended to maintain the long-term financial stability of the Sewer Utility in order to support the Borough's wastewater treatment obligations, upcoming debt service associated with the Environmental Infrastructure Trust financing, and costs associated with treatment services through the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority.

NOTICE:
The above ordinance was introduced at a meeting of the Mayor and Borough Council held on December 9, 2025. Adoption of this ordinance will be considered at a meeting to be held at the Municipal Court/Council Chambers 10 Lawlor Drive, Oakland, N.J. on December 23, 2025 commencing at 7:00 p.m., at which time and place all persons interested therein or affected thereby will be given an opportunity to be heard concerning same. Copies of this ordinance are available at the Municipal Building up to the time of the public hearing for members of the public who request the same.
