Ken, Daddy, Nineteen years. It still feels impossible. You remain the center of our world. Some days it feels as if you were just here. Other days stretch endlessly before us, the time and the ache relentless. We miss you every single day. Yet you are still present, in our conversations, in the milestones of our lives, in our memories, and in our hearts. You live on in your grandchildren, and we know you look down on them with pride. Tiger turned seventeen! We celebrated by watching him perform as the lead in The Music Man. I wish you could have been there to see the show, and to see the joy and excitement on the faces of his younger cousins: Reagan, Kenny, Norah, and Kayce.
Tiger, KJ, Reagan, Kayce, Kenneth Patrick, Kyler, Jackson, and Norah will know you and remember you, that is our promise. They talk about you. They laugh at the songs and stories you taught us. And they carry you in their hearts. KJ is a star in school and plays football. If you were here, you would be on the sidelines cheering him on, just as you once coached and cheered for your own sons. Reagan is wise beyond her years—so smart and deeply sensitive. Kayce is excelling in first grade; she is bright, artistic, and endlessly curious. Kenny Boy, your spitting image, is one of a kind. He is incredibly smart, and his compassion for others is remarkable. Kyler is thriving. Kat and I visited him in Dallas, and he proudly showed us the kindness award he received at school. He is pure love. Jackson is growing so quickly. Yesterday, after I told him a story, he said, “That is so nice, my auntie.” Jackson loves his family and spending time with his cousins. Last week, Norah ran upstairs smiling to tell me that Jackson called her a “sweetie.” He is funny and loves to draw with his dad—just like you did with Kevin. And Norah. She truly is a force of nature. She reminds me of you. She holds her own with her older siblings and cousins and has a razor-sharp wit. Your grandchildren are extraordinary. So many of your traits appear in their words, their actions, and their mannerisms.
Our family is strong and united. Our love is deep and enduring. You taught us well. Daddy, please continue to watch over Kyle. Let him know we are here for Aunt Kathy, Uncle Pat, Jaime, and Patrick. You are the foundation of our family. Everything we are, we owe to you. You lived a life rooted in family, love, and service. You taught us to work hard, to better our community, and always to try to repair the world. Daddy, you touched so many lives. People still seek us out to share their memories of you. Why? Because you made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. Everyone who knew you was proud to call you a friend. Linda, Ken, Kevin, Kristopher, Kraig, and Kathryn are thriving. Your sister Ronnie tells her seven grandchildren all about her brother— their Uncle Ken. Tiger, KJ, Reagan, Kayce, Kenny Boy, Kyler, Jackson, and Norah are your greatest legacies. We know you watch over them.
You were many things to many people. But above all else, you were a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. KLD. Love, Kristen, your wife Linda, and Kevin, Ken, Kristopher, Kraig, and Kathryn
