NOTICE OF AMENDMENT PUBLIC HEARING
CITY OF HIGH SHOALS
The High Shoals City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:30 pm in the High Shoals City Hall, 101 Thompkins Street, High Shoals, NC. The purpose of this hearing is to receive citizen comments about a proposed amendment to the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, CDBG #22-C-4125, funded through the North Carolina Department of Commerce – Rural Economic Development Division (REDD).
In 2023, the City was awarded $950,000 in CDBG funds for CDBG #22-C-4125 to rehabilitate five single family homes within the City. In February 2026, the City was granted an additional $132,875 for a total of $1,082,875. Now the City is requesting additional funds from REDD in the amount of $225,000 in order to add a public facility project to the CDBG program. Specifically, the City plans to use the additional funding to construct a columbarium in the City Cemetery located at 104 State Street, High Shoals, NC. These funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
