TOWNSHIP OF EVESHAM
EVESHAM TOWNSHIP ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
TAKE NOTICE that on November 17, 2025 at 7:00 PM, the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the Township of Evesham, Burlington County, New Jersey (the "Board") took action and approved the application filed by Belly Rubs Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc. for Minor Site Plan with bulk variances and submission waivers for the property located at 175 Taunton Lake Road, Marlton, New Jersey 08053 and designated as Block 38, Lots 8.01, 9.01 and 10 as shown on the Evesham Township Tax Map (the "Property") for the following project: Applicant is proposing to convert an existing dog kennel on lot 8.01 to a dog sanctuary (shelter) for the residency and adoption of older dogs, as an overflow for local dog shelter. The improvements on lot 10 (the existing single family-dwelling will continue as same) are limited to adding a split rail fence along street frontage, parking to support the dog shelter and a proposed new septic system for the single-family dwelling. No improvements are proposed on the vacant lot 9.01 which will remain as open space. The improvements on lot 8.01 include interior renovation to the existing kennel building, modifying the existing gravel driveway and construction of a dumpster enclosure, shed and AC unit plat form. No building expansion is proposed. The Evesham Zoning Board previously granted use variance approval (Resolution No. 2025-ZB-15) to permit the proposed dog shelter at the site.
The Applicant offered testimony at the hearing explaining that Belly Rubs Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit safe haven for homeless senior dogs. Its mission is to provide a calm, restful retreat for older dogs that have been lingering in local animal shelters. Removing these dogs from overcrowded shelters accomplishes two things: senior dogs will be placed in a quieter, more serene location while they await their new adopted homes. Relocating these older dogs to Belly Rubs from area shelters opens more space in their kennels for more adoptable, younger dogs.
The Board adopted a resolution at a scheduled meeting held on December 15, 2025, memorializing the decision of the Board on November 17, 2025, granting the Minor Site Plan application, subject to conditions as set forth in the memorializing resolution.
The application and plans mentioned above are on file in the office of the Evesham Township Zoning Board of Adjustment at the Evesham Municipal Building located at 984 Tuckerton Road, Marlton, New Jersey 08053 and are available for inspection during regular business hours.
