PUBLIC NOTICE
THE SCHOOL BOARD OF OKALOOSA COUNTY, FLORIDA will conduct a Public Hearing pursuant to §§ 1006.283 and 1006.40, Florida Statutes to consider the recommended adoption of the following instructional materials for English Language Arts classes.
The following materials are being recommended, from the state approved instructional materials list, pending budget allowance:
Elementary Grades K – 5
1. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH)-Recommended for Adoption
2. McGraw Hill
Middle Grades 6-8 English Language Arts
1. Savvas–Recommended for Adoption
High School – English Language Arts
1. Savvas–Recommended for Adoption
The public is invited to preview the materials online via the Okaloosa County School District website. The direct link to the preview materials is https://www.okaloosaschools.com/o/ocsd/page/2026-textbook-adoption. Printed copies of the student texts being proposed for adoption are also available in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction located at the School District's Central Administration Complex, located at 202A Highway 85 North, Niceville, Florida. The public may make appointments to review these instructional materials by contacting Tasha Bates at (850) 226-4582.
The Public Hearing will be conducted during the School Board's regular meeting on May 26, 2026, at 5:15 p.m., or soon thereafter as the matter may be heard. The meeting will be conducted at the School District's Central Administration Complex located at 202A Highway 85 North, Niceville, Florida, in the Board Room. This meeting is open to the press and public. Those members of the public wishing to comment on the instructional materials recommended for adoption may appear at the Public Hearing and will be heard.
Any interested party who decides to appeal any decision made by the Okaloosa County School Board with respect to any matter considered during this meeting, will need a record of the proceedings and, for such purpose, may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. This notice does not constitute consent by the School Board for the introduction or admission of otherwise inadmissible or irrelevant evidence, nor does it authorize challenges or appeals not otherwise allowed by law.
