Transportation Cabinet to Hold Public Meeting on
May 7, 2026 (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) for
Reconnecting Central Portland to the Riverfront
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 7, for the Reconnecting Central Portland to the Riverfront project to gather input on alternatives to improve connections between the Portland neighborhood and the Ohio Riverfront, between 17th Street and 28th Street along the I-64 corridor in downtown Louisville.
The open-house style public meeting will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Molly Leonard Portland Community Center (640 North 27th Street, Louisville, Ky.) on Thursday, May 7. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend to review project information, discuss the project with the team and provide input.
Project components include 22nd Street from Bank Street to Northwestern Parkway, the I-64/22nd Street interchange, pedestrian bridges over I-64, the McAlpine Locks/Lannan Park access road, and right-of-way edge treatment along I-64.
Outreach will continue throughout the project, with a second public meeting anticipated later this year to gather input to help the project team select preferred alternatives to advance to the final design phase in 2027. Construction is expected to start in 2028, dependent on funding availability.
