NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
PROPOSED SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the City Commission of the City of Marine City will hold a public hearing consistent with MCL 41.801; on:

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive and consider public comments on (1) the proposed Estimate of costs and expenses for Public Safety Services, and (2) the proposed establishment of a Special Assessment District ("SAD") to defray those costs by special assessment against properties in the proposed district, and (3) to consider the adoption of a Resolution formalizing both of these actions. (The proposed Resolution can be found on the City website www.marinecity.gov)
DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED DISTRICT
The proposed Special Assessment District ("District") consists of all taxable parcels within the City of Marine City, except those properties exempt from taxation under the General Property Tax Act.
ESTIMATED COST ("ESTIMATE")
The total Estimate, as required by MCL 41.801, to be assessed for Public Safety Services is:
$706,000.00 (first year Estimate)
PURPOSE OF ASSESSMENT
The proposed assessment is intended to fund in part, Public Safety Services which include police and/or fire protection services, including but not limited to personnel, equipment, operations, and response capability, which are determined by the City Commission to confer a special benefit upon properties within the District.
METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
If established by Resolution, the assessment is proposed to be levied on the basis of taxable value of properties within the District and collected annually on the winter tax bill, in the same manner as City property taxes, and reviewed thereafter on an annual basis pursuant to MCL 41.801(4) following the process and the procedures required.
REVIEW OF DOCUMENTS
A summary of the Estimate and the proposed Resolution regarding the proposed Special Assessment District are available for public inspection at the Office of the City Clerk during regular business hours and are on our website under SAD process www.marinecity.gov
RIGHT TO COMMENT/OBJECT
All interested persons are invited to appear and be heard at the public hearing. An owner or party in interest, or their agent, who wishes to object to the SAD with the Michigan Tax Tribunal must comply, if applicable, with the requirements of MCL 211.741.
Written objections may be filed prior to the public hearing or submitted at the public hearing consistent with MCL 211.741.
RIGHT TO PETITION UNDER MCL 41.801
Citizens wishing to exercise the right of petition on the SAD may do so pursuant to MCL 41.801.
FURTHER PROCEEDINGS
Following this public hearing, the City Commission may approve the SAD by way of a Resolution and proceed with the preparation of a special assessment roll. Another public hearing will be scheduled to consider objections to the proposed assessment roll/special assessment levy.
This notice is given pursuant to applicable provisions of Michigan law, including, but not limited to, MCL 41.801 et seq., as amended.
