City of Soledad - Notice of Public Hearing for the 2025 California Building Standard Codes NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Soledad will hold a Public Hearing at City Hall located at 248 Main Street, Soledad, CA on December 3, 2025 at 6pm to consider the following matter: Adoption and Reading by Title Only of Ordinance No.779, An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Soledad Repealing Chapter 15.08 of the Soledad Municipal Code and Adopting the 2025 California Building Standards Codes and the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code The State of California updates the California Building Standards Code (CBSC) every three years, with the 2025 edition becoming effective on January 1, 2026. Local jurisdictions are required to enforce the new codes, which include updated building, fire, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical standards emphasizing safety, energy efficiency, seismic resilience, and accessibility. The City Council will consider adopting Ordinance No. 779, which proposes local amendments to the building and fire codes to address Soledad's unique geographic and environmental conditions and to maintain consistency with other jurisdictions in Monterey County. The ordinance will be first introduced by title only on November 19, 2025, and will for be considered for final adoption during a public hearing on December 3, 2025, before the City Council of the City of Soledad.The adoption of the proposed ordinance is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15061(b)(3) (Common Sense Exemption). The action is largely administrative in nature and designed to improve and not degrade environmental quality such that there is no possibility that adopting this Ordinance would adversely affect the environment in any manner that could be significant. Therefore, because it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the adoption of this ordinance will have a significant effect on the environment, the proposed action is not subject to CEQA.Members of the public are invited to attend the hearing and provide comments.
