Notice of Annual School Election and Budget Vote
Notice is hereby given that the Public Hearing of the residents of the City School District of the City of Corning, New York, registered to vote at the annual school election in said District will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:30 p.m., Daylight-Saving Time, at the Administration Building , 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, NY 14870, for the purpose of hearing comments on the proposed annual budget for the 2026-2027 school year and for the transaction of such other business as is authorized by the Education Law.
And Notice is hereby given that the Annual Election of the City School District of the City of Corning will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Daylight Saving Time, and as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters present to cast their ballots to vote on the following items:
1. To adopt the annual budget of the Corning City School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027; and,
2. Proposition No. 2 – Bond Proposition (Buses and Vehicles)
Shall the Bond Resolution of the City School District of the City of Corning, New York, entitled: "Bond Resolution of the City School District of the City of Corning, New York, adopted March 18, 2026, authorizing the acquisition of various school buses and vehicles; stating the estimated total cost thereof is $1, 129, 000; appropriating said amount therefor; and authorizing the issuance of $1, 129, 000 serial bonds of said District to finance said appropriation," be approved?
3. Proposition No. 3 – Southeast Steuben County Library Section 259 Vote
"Shall the sum of $1,567,977 (One Million Five Hundred and Sixty Seven Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy Seven Dollars), be raised by annual levy of a tax upon the taxable property within the Corning-Painted Post Area School District for the purpose of funding the Southeast Steuben County Library," be approved?
4. To elect three (3) members of the Board of Education: the top three candidates will take 3-year terms commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring on June 30, 2029.

A detailed description of the boundaries of each of said election districts is on file and may be examined at the Office of the District Clerk, 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York 14870.
And Notice is also given that the text of the propositions to be voted on and a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, inclusive of public monies, and including a copy of the latest tax exemption impact report, may be obtained by any resident of the District during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding and including the Annual Election except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, on the District's website at www.corningareaschools.com, and at the office of the Board of Education, 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. , and in each schoolhouse in the district in which school is maintained, and also at each public library within the District during normal operating hours within the aforesaid fourteen (14) day period.
And Notice is also given that the petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the Corning City School District not later than 5:00 p.m. on April 29, 2026. Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least 100 qualified voters of the district, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Petitions are available from the District Clerk at the District Office of the Corning City School District, 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York, 14870.
And Notice is also given that applications for early mail and absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk between thirty (30) and seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Completed ballots must be returned to the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote.
A list of persons to whom early mail and absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk on and after May 5, 2026 through May 18, 2026 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and on May 19, 2026, the day set for the election, and said lists will be posted at the District Office, 165 Charles St., Painted Post, New York, 14870.
And Notice is also given, that any person who did not register for the preceding general election, or at the time of such registration resided in a school election district other than the one in which he/she presently resides, or who did not apply for permanent registration at the County Clerk's Office more than thirty (30) days preceding the election, in order to be entitled to vote at the annual election must present herself/himself personally for registration at the Board of Registration at the Board of Education Office, 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York in said City School District on May 5, 2026 from NOON to 4:00 p.m. To be eligible to vote you must be a resident of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District for at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the vote, at least eighteen (18) years of age, a citizen of the United States or registered with the Board of Elections of the county in which you reside or with the Board of Registration of the District.
And Notice is also given that the registers prepared for the Annual City School District election to be held on May 19, 2026, will be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the Board of Education of said City School District, located at 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York, where such registers will be open to inspection between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on each day, up to May 19, 2026, the day set for the Annual City School District Election.
And Notice is also given that any military voter registered with the District may request an application for a military ballot. Such requests must be directed to the District Clerk and should indicate the military voter's preference to receive the registration form and ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. All such applications must be returned to the District Clerk no later than fifteen (15) days prior to the vote date. All completed military ballots must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote.
