Gilbert Community School District Regular Meeting/Closed Session of the Board of Education 11/10/2025 06:00 PM Intermediate LMC 103 Mathews Drive, Gilbert, IA 50105 MEETING MINUTES Call to Order The Regular Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by President Josh Bennett. Roll Call The following members of the board answered the roll call: Nathan Kerns, Mindy Rash and Andrew Ricklefs, and Student Representative Bia Dantas. Absent: Melissa Pearson. Staff: Heather Currans Visitors: Nick Schalinske Approval of Agenda Approve agenda as presented. Motion made by: Andrew Ricklefs Motion seconded by: Nathan Kerns Voting: Unanimously Approved Public Forum There were no pubic forum items. ORAL REPORTS Announcements/Celebrations Story County Preschool Award Staci Edwards, Elementary School Principal, and Heather Currans, Preschool Teacher, attended on behalf of Gilbert Elementary Preschool, which was selected as the 2025 Choice Award Winner for Best of Story County. The Board of Education extends its congratulations! Leader in Me Academic Honor Roll - Intermediate School Congratulations to Amy Griffin, IS Principal, students and staff! Celebrations by Bia Dantas, Student Representative End of seasons for sports (football, volleyball, and cross-country). The High School will perform the Prince of Egypt musical from November 13-15. DECA districts are next weekend. Administrator Reports Final 2025-26 Certified Enrollment Report - Dr. Trujillo reviewed the final Certified Enrollment numbers with the board. Open enrollment in and out information was reviewed. Gilbert CSD has 188 students open enrolled in and 151 students open enrolled out, a net positive 37 students. Department Updates Report The Board received the Department Updates Report. Mental Wellness Report - Website Update - Dr. Trujillo Lindsey Good reviewed the new Student Support webpage with the board. Thanks to Lindsey and Ashley Smith for the great work! Data Update - Lindsey Good provided a 20-minute review of the Gilbert Schools Iowa School Performance Profile Results Overview report with the board. This is an online accountability tool that reports how public schools in Iowa are performing across multiple learning measures, such as: proficiency, growth, attendance and post-secondary readiness. The ISPP assigns a composite score and rating for each school. It also identifies schools requiring additional support under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) framework and provides publicly accessible data to help all stakeholders engage in meaningful improvement dialogue. Gilbert Logo Information - Troy Banning, Director of Community Engagement, provided information regarding Gilbert logos, along with Activities Director, Ian Smith. The patron and parent, Nick Schalinske, were also present to discuss the current logo issues and possible changes. Due to trademark issues, the current Gilbert tiger logo will need to be redesigned, along with other Gilbert logos. This will be a process that will take years and will use student, staff and community input and will be a phasing process over the next several years. Board Reports City of Gilbert Letter dated October 16, 2025 The board received a letter from the City of Gilbert regarding parcel 05-10-300-115 being considered for annexation. Policy Committee Update October 17, 2025 Policy Committee Meeting Minutes Next Policy Committee Meeting - Friday, December 12 - 2:00 p.m. IASB Annual Convention November 19-21, 2025 Josh Bennett, Nathan Kerns, Andrew Ricklefs and Dr. Trujillo will be attending the convention. 2025 School Board Elections - November 4, 2025 - Unofficial Results - Final Results will be available Tuesday, November 18th Congratulations to Josh Bennett. The other board member will not be known for another week. Thanks to everyone for voting and supporting Gilbert CSD. Joshua Bennett - 802 - 37.03%, Dakota Hoben - 464 - 21.42%, Jerud Thompson - 464 - 21.42% and Jossie Gray - 415 - 19.16% Voter Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Property Tax Levy (PPEL) Continuation - 65.51% Approval Facilities Reports/Update Dr. Trujillo gave a brief update on all the projects, noting that they are progressing well and showing great results.
