Present:Board Members: Marty Chitty, Tom Maier, Leanne Harter, Emily Schaack, Tori Carsrud, Chiara Chappell, Jaden Grimm
Staff: Dr Steve Gray, Tammy Ellis, Lane Vanderhart, Dustin Smith, Tony Schneiderman
1.Call to Order at 6:30 p.m.
2.Approval of the Agenda – Motion by Harter second by Schaack to approve the agenda with additions. Motion carried 5-0
3.Public Comment – None
4.Information - None
5.Action Agenda –
5.1 School Safety Grant – SRO Lane Vanderhart updated the board on the school safety grant that had been tabled by the board during the 4/20/26 board meeting. Motion by Carsrud second by Harter to have SRO Vanderhart bring back at least 2 more quotes to the board for consideration. Motion carried 5-0
5.2 Building Handbooks: 2026-27 Edits – Dr Gray updated the board on the elementary handbook edits, Middle School Principal, Tony Schneiderman and High School Assistant Principal Dustin Smith updated that board on the middle and high school building handbook edits. Motion to approve the building handbooks as presented with suggested edits by Maier, second by Schaack. Motion carried 5
5.3 HOIAC Admission 26-27 – High School Athletic Director, Dustin Smith presented information on increasing the admission to athletic events from $6 to $8.Motion by Harter to approved the HOIAC admission increase as presented to $8 for adults and students for the high school, with the middle school remaining the same price. Motion Failed 2-3 with Maier and Schaack voting Yes, Harter, Carsrud, and Chitty voting No.
5.4HS Gym Video Board Quote (Booster Club Purchase) – High School Athletic Director, Dustin Smith presented a quote for a new high school gym video board that would be reimbursed by the Booster Club. Motion by Carsrud second by Schaack to approve the purchase/gifting of a Daktronics gym video board as presented. Chitty would like to bring the Booster Club in for a Board Salute for their gift. Motion Carried 5-0
5.5 Meal Prices 2026-27 – Dr Gray presented the meal prices for the upcoming 2026-27 year. Motion by Carsrud second by Harter to approve the 2026-27 meal prices as presented. Motion carried 5-0
5.6 Policy Review 307 Communication Channels – First Reading – Dr Gray presented 307 Communication Channels Policy. Motion by Harter second by Carsrud to approve the first reading of policy 307 Communication Channels. Motion carried 5-0
5.7 Policy Additions: 307.R1, 307.R2, 307 R3 – First Reading – Motion by Schaack second by Carsrud to approve Policy Additions 307 first reading. Motion carried 5-0
5.8 Irrigation Well – A proposed irrigation well was brought back up for discussion after being tabled at the 4/20/26 board meeting. A motion by Carsrud second by Harter to approve 5.8 to pursue an irrigation well. Motion Failed 2-3 with Chitty and Maier voting Yes, Carsrud, Harter and Schaack voting No.
Motion by Maier to explore the irrigation well one year from today, Maier then rescinded his motion and made a motion to bring the irrigation well topic back up at the next Board Retreat (board work session) seconded by Carsrud. Motion carried 5-0
5.9 Set Hearing for FY26 Budget Amendment: Motion by Harter second by Maier to set the hearing date of May 18, 2026 for the FY26 budget amendment. Motion carried 5-0
6. Consent Agenda – Motion by Schaack second by Harter to approve the agenda as presented with additions Motion Carried 5-0
6.1 Board Minutes of the meeting of April 20, 2026 – Harter mentioned a correction was needed for the consent agenda approval. The correction will be made and be up for approval at the May 4th board meeting.
