Notice of Pending Application for Lake Shore Erosion Control-Great Lakes
The United States Coast Guard has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to place lake shore erosion control on the bed of the Sturgeon Bay ship canal. The project is located on parcel 0240222272646A in the SW ¼ of the SW ¼ of Section 23, Township 27 North, Range 26 East, Town of Sturgeon Bay, Door County.
The applicant is proposing the installation of steel sheet wall in front of an existing timber wall along 228 linear feet of shoreline. The new steel wall will sit approximately 4 feet waterward of the existing timber wall face and tied back with anchor rods. The area between the new and existing wall will be filled with flowable and granular fill.
The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and the public informational hearing. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11, 30.12 and 30.208, Wis. Stats., and Ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code.
The Department has made a tentative determination that it will issue the permit for the proposed activity.

Comments must be submitted or postmarked no later than 30 days after the date on which the Department first publishes the notice on our website, by Monday, June 29th, 2026.
If you would like to request a public informational hearing, the request must be submitted or postmarked within 20 days after the date on which the Department first publishes the notice on our Internet website, by Friday, June 19th, 2026. A request for hearing must include the docket number or applicant name and specify the issues that the party desires to be addressed at the informational hearing. If no hearing is requested, the Department will issue its decision without a hearing. If a hearing is held, comments must be submitted or postmarked no later than 10 days following the hearing date.
