Notice of Permissive Referendum
The residents of the New Castle Fire District No. 1 are hereby on NOTICE that on May 13, 2026, the Board of Fire Commissioners at a public meeting, voted to adopt the following resolution, subject to a permissive referendum.
In connection with the Site Development Plan for the construction of an extension to the main fire station located at 491-495 King Street, Chappaqua, New York (the "Project"), the Board of Fire Commissioners of the New Castle Fire District No. 1 have authorized the grant of a certain Sidewalk Extension Agreement to facilitate the construction of a sidewalk to serve the Project. The Sidewalk Extension Agreement may require the conveyance of an easement or dedication of fee title of land to the New York State DOT. Based on investigations made by the Board, it was determined that the value of the easement exceeds $20,000 and that a permissive referendum is required.
Should the residents of New Castle Fire District No. 1 desire to protest the conveyance of said easement, they may do so by petition which shall be: signed by resident taxpayers owning taxable real property in the District aggregating at least one-quarter of the assessed valuation of all of the taxable real property in the District owned by resident taxpayers; and acknowledged or proved in the same manner as a deed to be recorded or authenticated in the manner provided by election law for authentication of nominating petitions.
Said petition must be filed with the Board of Fire Commissioners within thirty (30) days of the date of the first publication of this notice.
