In coordination with Portage County, an aquatic approved herbicide treatment to control non-native cattail (Typha x glauca), Reed Canary Grass (Phalaris arundinacea), non-native common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartic), and non-native Honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) are scheduled to start April 2026 and to be completed by November 2026. Treatment efforts will occur within property owned by Portage County in coordination with the ongoing Little Plover River Wetland and Stream Restoration Project. The wetland is located off 5th street in Stevens Point, WI. Adjacent landowners of the treatment site will receive notice and have access to the Aquatic Plant Management (APM) Plan. Treatments will be completed using aquatic approved herbicides and surfactants. Triclopyr and Glyphosate are anticipated to be used onsite. Chemical applications will be performed by a state licensed applicator. Applications will include a combination of hand wicking and spot spraying with the use of backpack sprayers. Roughly 35 acres within the treatment site will be managed for the targeted species listed above. A public information meeting on the proposed herbicide application can be requested by local landowners or others with an interest in this project. The request must be made in writing within five days of this notice. Send request to Logan Bliss at Logan.Bliss@merjent.com.
