PUBLIC NOTICE
Pursuant to the Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act, the Clean Streams Law, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources Rules and Regulations, notice is hereby given that Simkol Corporation, 1281 Rubright Road, Rockwood, PA 15557 has made application to the Bureau of District Mining Operations, Ebensburg District Mining Office, 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931-4119, to transfer the following existing Surface Mine Permits and related NPDES permits from Heritage Coal & Natural Resources, LLC, 622 Central Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15902. SMP# 56663069, known as the Summit #2 Mine. The center of the 3,040 acre permit is located in Elk Lick and Summit Townships, Somerset County, approximately 8.4 inches north and 10.1 inches west of the bottom right-hand corner of the printed area of the U.S.G.S. 7 ½' Meyersdale quadrangle map. The permit area is situated north and west of the Casselman River and extends from Boynton to Meyersdale and south and east of SR 2004 from St. Paul to one mile east of Summit Mills. Simkol Corporation will continue to surface mine bituminous coal, conduct blasting activities, and discharge treated water to unnamed tributaries of and to Elk Lick Creek and unnamed tributaries of and to the Casselman River. is located in Summit Township, Somerset County, approximately 10.0 inches north and 7.0 inches west of the bottom right-hand corner of the printed area of the U.S.G.S. 7 ½' Meyersdale quadrangle map. The permit area is situated west of Casselman River, north and east of T-403, Coke Oven Road, and south of Elk Lick Creek. Simkol Corporation will continue to surface mine bituminous coal, conduct blasting activities, and discharge treated water to unnamed tributaries to Elk Lick Creek, Elk Lick Creek, unnamed tributaries to Casselman River, and Casselman River.
The applications, plans, and other data concerning these transfers have been placed on file for public review at the above listed office of the Bureau of District Mining Operations. Anyone wishing to submit comments or requests for an informal conference concerning these applications for transfer should write to the above listed Bureau of District Mining Operations address within thirty (30) days of the final publication of this notice stating his or her name, address, telephone number, and the nature of their comment. This application is made in accordance with the provisions of the Act of June 22, 1937, P.L., 1987, as amended.
