PUBLIC NOTICE
Pursuant to the "Noncoal Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act" and the "Clean Streams Law" notice is hereby given that Eureka Stone Quarry, Inc. (Eureka), 851 County Line Road, Huntington Valley, PA 19006, has made application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to renew an Individual National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, number PA0225886, in association with the Sterling Quarry, Surface Mine Permit Number 64950301. The Sterling Quarry is located in Sterling Township, Wayne County. The site entrance is located on Sterling Road on the left-hand side, approximately one (1) mile north of the intersection of Springhill Road and Sterling Road in Sterling, PA.
The receiving stream is Uban Creek, which is classified as High Quality - Cold Water Fishery (HQ-CWF) and Migratory Fishes (MF) in 25 PA Code Chapter 93. There is no discharge from the site to Uban Creek. The permit area is 162 acres and is located on the Sterling, PA US Geological Survey 7.5-minute topographic map, approximately 18.75 inches north and 3.49 inches west of the lower right-hand corner of the map.
A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the Sterling Township Office, 1066 Maple Grove Rd, Sterling, PA 18463. Written comment, objections, or a request for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to the DEP, Pottsville District Mining Office, 5 West Laurel Boulevard, Pottsville, PA 17901, by July 25, 2026 and must include the person's name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement as to the nature of the objection(s).
