THE KANSAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD INVITES THE PUBLIC TO LEARN ABOUT AND PROVIDE INPUT ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE ACTION ACTIVITIES AT TOPEKA ARMY AVIATION SUPPORT FACILITY #1, KANSAS
6700 S.W. TOPEKA BLVD, TOPEKA, KANSAS, 66619
The Kansas Army National Guard is conducting an environmental investigation for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the Topeka Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) #1 in Topeka, Kansas. An Administrative Record File has been established to include documents and information as they are generated during the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies phase. The Administrative Record is a collection of documents maintained by the Army National Guard (ARNG) that form the basis for the selection of a particular response action. To ensure information about the PFAS work at Topeka AASF #1 is available to interested citizens, the ARNG will maintain these records at the following locations:
National Guard Bureau, 111 S. George Mason Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22204.
Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604, (785) 580-4400. Records at the Public Library can be accessed through the Local History Collection (within the Topeka Room or made available upon request). Further information will be available at the Public Library.
The ARNG is also soliciting public interest in establishing a Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) for PFAS remedial investigation activities and potential future response actions at Topeka AASF #1.
What is a RAB? A RAB is a community group which meets to discuss and receive information on environmental restoration (cleanup of contamination) projects at a military facility.
What does a RAB do? A RAB enables community members interested in environmental cleanup to receive from and exchange information with the facility and regulatory agencies managing environmental cleanup projects at Topeka AASF #1. At meetings, RAB members and the public can receive updates and ask questions on the status of the environmental cleanup program at Topeka AASF #1.
Though RABs are not decision-making groups, RABs do give local community members the opportunity to have their voices heard and to provide valuable community insight to the facility and regulatory agencies.
