NOTICE OF LOCATION AND DESIGN APPROVAL P. I. 0017967 JEFFERSON COUNTY   Notice is hereby given in compliance with Georgia Code 22-2-109 and 32-3-5 that the Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the Location and Design of this project.   The date of location and design approval is: January 29, 2026   The purpose of the project is to replace the minor stop-controlled with hybrid multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of SR 540/Fenns Bridge Road and SR 296 in Jefferson County, GA. The total length of the project is 0.4 miles. The project is located within GMD 76 and GMD 1460.   The configuration involves two entry lanes on each approach from SR 540 and one entry lane on each approach from SR 296. The roundabout will consist of 16 feet wide circulating lanes and an inside truck apron varying from 10 to 22 feet in width to accommodate turning movements. Rural paved shoulders will be installed along the outside of the roundabout and will also include exterior truck aprons at the corners of the roundabout. The roadway approaches would consist of 12 feet wide travel lanes, flush median, rural paved shoulders, and open channel drainage. As the roadway approaches the roundabout, the typical section will transition to a raised median (splitter islands) with variable width travel lanes. The splitter islands will be utilized to separate entering and exiting traffic streams and assist in channeling the vehicles through the roundabout. No off-site detour is anticipated.
