NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING
VOTING ON 2026-2027 SCHOOL BUDGET & ONE (1) BOARD SEAT
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Budget Hearing for the inhabitants of Addison Central School District, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held in the cafeteria of the high school on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to conduct such business as is authorized by the Education Law.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Meeting for voting on the 2026-2027 school budget and the election of one member to the Board of Education, to fill one (1) - five (5) year expired term of Marty Wheeler will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:30 p.m. in the High School Library.
NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that at said Annual Meeting to be held on May19, 2026, the following proposition will be submitted to the voters:
2026-2027 BUDGET
Shall the budget for the Addison Central School District for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, as presented by the Board of Education, be approved and adopted, the required funds be appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law?
NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a statement of amount of the money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes may be obtained by any taxpayer in the district during the fourteen days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting, except Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, at any schoolhouse office of Addison Central School between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the petitions nominating candidates for a member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District no later than 5:00 p.m. April 20, 2026. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education:
A five (5) year term to fill the expired term of Marty Wheeler.
Petitions must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district, and must state the name and residence of the candidate.
NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law requires the District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how the total assessed value of the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted by statutory authority, and show the cumulative impact of each type of exemption, the cumulative amount expected to be received as payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) and the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. In addition, said exemption report shall be posted on any District bulletin board maintained by the District for Public Notices, as well as on the District's website.
NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that applications for early mail and absentee ballots are available to be picked up at the District Office, 7 Cleveland Drive, Suite 101, Addison, NY 14801, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If there are questions, please call the District Office at 607-359-2244.
The application must be received by the Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and at least seven (7) business days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter (May 8, 2026), or the day before the election (May 18, 2026) if the ballot is to be picked up personally. Sealed ballot envelopes will be received up to 5:00 p.m. on Election Day (May 19, 2026) at the District Office.
A list of all persons to whom early mail and absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in said office of the Clerk on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of the election except Sunday (Saturday will be by appointment only). Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the Inspectors of Election before the close of the polls. A challenge to an early voting ballot may not be made on the basis that the voter should have applied for an absentee ballot.
The Education Law makes special provisions for absentee voting by permanently disabled voters of the District and any questions regarding these rights should be directed to the District Clerk.
The Education Law also makes special provisions for absentee voting for military voters of the District. Specifically, the law provides a unique procedure for military ballots in school district votes. A military voter may elect to receive his/her absentee ballot application and absentee ballot by mail, email or facsimile. The military voter must, however, return his/her original military ballot application and military ballot by mail or in person. The District Clerk shall transmit the military voter's military ballot in accord with the military voter's preferred method of transmission. Military ballot applications must be received by April 23, 2026, as military ballots must be transmitted by the District by April 24, 2026. The District Clerk must then receive the military voter's military ballot by mail or in person not later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote.
