NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS
Several owners have submitted voluntary applications to have their real property annexed into the corporate boundaries of the City of Altoona. Altoona intends to set a public hearing to consider approving the voluntary requests for annexation. In that same public hearing, Altoona may consider the annexation of additional real property whose owners have not consented to be annexed into Altoona to avoid, through annexation, the creation of an island or to establish a more uniform corporate boundary of territory to be annexed. The proposed territory to be annexed is located within two (2) miles of the corporate boundaries of the cities of Bondurant, Mitchellville, and Pleasant Hill corporate boundaries. A public hearing will be held on October 6th, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 900 Venbury Drive, Altoona, Iowa. At the time and place of the public hearing, the Council will receive oral and/or written comments related to the proposed annexation. The proposed annexation includes 959.5 acres with 755.376 acres (82.93%) being voluntary. The annexation includes 3 acres belonging to the Iowa Interstate Railroad, the Altoona Cemetery (2.88-acres) belonging to the Clay Township Trustees, and 42.85 acres of Polk County roadway right-of-way. If the annexation petitions are approved by the Altoona City Council, the application information will be sent to the City Development Board of the State of Iowa for consideration. Please take notice and govern yourself accordingly.
Sincerely,
