On motion by Mark Perque, seconded by Terry Pierce, the following resolution was introduced and adopted:
RESOLUTION NO. 26-159
A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE PARISH OF LAFOURCHE, STATE OF LOUISIANA, ON SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2026, TO AUTHORIZE THE CONTINUATIONS OF A ONE AND SIXTY-SEVEN HUNDREDTHS (1.67) MILLS AD VALOREM TAX FOR A PERIOD OF TEN (10) YEARS, BEGINNING WITH THE YEAR 2027 AND ENDING WITH THE YEAR 2036, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACQUIRING, CONSTRUCTING, IMPROVING, MAINTAINING OR OPERATING THE LAFOURCHE PARISH PUBLIC LIBRARY AND ITS BRANCHES, AND A FOUR AND ELEVEN HUNDREDTHS (4.11) MILLS AD VALOREM TAX FOR A PERIOD OF TEN (10) YEARS, BEGINNING WITH THE YEAR 2027 AND ENDING WITH THE YEAR 2036, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACQUIRING, CONSTRUCTING, IMPROVING, MAINTAINING AND/OR OPERATING THE LAFOURCHE PARISH PUBLIC LIBRARY AND ITS BRANCHES, INCLUDING AUTOMATION AND OTHER EQUIPMENT, LIBRARY BOOKS AND MATERIALS AND FURNISHINGS THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, this resolution was sponsored for Administration by Mr. Armand Autin, Councilman, District 7.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Parish Council of the Parish of Lafourche, State of Louisiana (the “Governing Authority”), acting as the governing authority of the Parish of Lafourche, State of Louisiana (the “Parish”), as follows:
SECTION 1. Canvass of Returns. That the Governing Authority does now proceed in open and public session to examine the official certified tabulations of votes cast at the special election held in the Parish on Saturday, May 16, 2026 (the “Election”), said tabulations having been prepared and certified by the election officials serving at the designated polling places, and the Governing Authority does now further proceed to examine and canvass the returns and declare the result of the Election.
SECTION 2. Proces Verbal. That a Proces Verbal of the canvass of the returns of the Election shall be made and that a certified copy thereof shall be forwarded to the Secretary of State, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who shall record the same in her office; that another certified copy thereof shall be forwarded to the Clerk of Court and ex-officio Recorder of Mortgages in and for the Parish of Lafourche, State of Louisiana, who shall record the same in the Mortgage Records of the Parish of Lafourche, State of Louisiana; and that another copy thereof shall be retained in the archives of the Governing Authority.
SECTION 3. Promulgation of Election Result. That the result of the Election shall be promulgated by publication in the manner provided by law, after receipt from the Secretary of State’s office of the actual cost of holding the Election, as required by La. R.S. 18:1292(B)(2).
SECTION 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately.
