NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING AND VOTE
CANDOR CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Budget Hearing
A budget hearing for the inhabitants of the Candor Central School District qualified to vote at School District meetings will be held at the Junior-Senior High School Auditorium of the Candor Central School District, commencing at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, where the proposed school district budget for the following school year will be presented.
Date of Vote
The vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures or for any propositions involving the expenditure of money or the authorizing of levy of taxes, as well as the election of members of the Board of Education, shall be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the Junior-Senior High School Auditorium of the Candor Central School District, between the hours of 12:00 p.m and 9:00 p.m.
Statement of Money Required for Next School Year
A copy of the statement of the amount of money that would be required for the next school year for school purposes shall be completed seven days before the budget hearing. It may be obtained by any resident of the District at each schoolhouse during the period of 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., except Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday.
Vote for Board of Education Members
Petitions nominating candidates for the office of members of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., not later than Monday, April 20, 2026. The following vacancies are to be filled:
• A three-year term ending June 30, 2029, presently held by Mr. Nate Brace.
• A three-year term ending June 30, 2029, presently held by Mr. Greggory Houck.
Each petition must be addressed to the Clerk of the District, be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district, state the residence of each signer, and include the name and address of the candidate. Vacancies on the Board shall not be considered separate specific offices. The two individuals receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to the vacancies.
Bus Proposition I:
Shall the following resolution be adopted, to wit:
Resolved that the Board of Education of the Candor Central School District is hereby authorized to undertake the acquisition of school buses, including, without limitation, two (2) diesel school buses and two (2) 7-passenger vehicles for student transportation, all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $510,000, less trade-in value, if any, and that such cost, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, with such tax to be offset by state aid available therefor; and, in anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed $510,000 shall be issued, or the School District may enter into an installment purchase contract if the Board of Education determines that it is in the best interest of the School District to finance the purchase in that method.
Additional Propositions
Any proposition that is required to be included for vote shall be submitted in writing by means of a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters, stating the residence of each signer, which proposition shall be filed with the Board of Education not later than 30 days before the date of the election as set forth in this notice unless a greater number of days is required by statute. Any proposition shall be rejected by the Board of Education if the purpose of the proposition is not within the powers of the voters or where the expenditure of monies is required for the proposition, and such proposition fails to include the necessary specific appropriation.
Absentee Ballots
Applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the District Office. Such applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the absentee voter. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the Clerk of the District not later than 4:00 p.m. on the date of the vote.
A list of all the people to whom absentee voters' ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection during regular office hours, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications of a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for the challenge. Such a list shall be posted in a conspicuous place during the election, and any qualified voter may challenge the acceptance of the absentee voters' ballots or a person on such list by making this challenge and the reasons for the challenge known to the inspectors of the election before the close of the polls.
