TOWN OF WHITMAN
PLANNING BOARD
PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
The Planning Board of the Town of Whitman will hold a public hearing to discuss two proposed amendments to the Town's Protective Zoning Bylaw, Chapter 240, as follows:
Place: Town Hall Auditorium, Town Hall, 54 South Ave., Whitman
Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2026
Time: 6:30 PM
The subject matter of these amendments, proposed by the Board of Appeals, is summarized as follows:
1. Amend Section 240-12.7, "Board of Appeals", by deleting the last sentence in subsection E(2) and replacing it with a new sentence, to read, "A special pennit granted under this section shall lapse after three years from the grant thereof, if a substantial use thereof has not begun by such date except for good cause or, in the case of a permit for construction, if construction has not begun by such date except for good cause, as determined by the Board of Appeals", or take any action relative thereto.
2. Amend Section 240-6.6, "Accessory Dwelling Units", to replace references to a "singlefamily dwelling?' with "principal dwelling" in subsections B and D; remove a minimum gross floor area requirement in subsection B; except an Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) located entirely within an existing principal dwelling from site plan approval requirements; clarify the number of parking spaces required in subsection F; remove a prohibition of ADUs in non-conforming accessory structures in subsection G; and remove a variance requirement for a new nonconformity in a principal dwelling created by an ADU in subsection I, all as consistent with the decision of the Attomey General partially approving the previously adopted bylaw, or take any action relative thereto.
