NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
ABANDONED PROPERTIES
BOROUGH OF WANAQUE
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on March 9, 2026, at 6 pm, a public hearing will be held immediately prior to the Borough Council meeting. The public hearing is an “Abandoned Property” hearing, which will be conducted pursuant to Ordinance Number 05-07-2025, which amended Ordinance Number 21-0-16, as codified in Section 88-3 of the Borough of Wanaque Code. The hearing will be held at the Municipal Building, 579 Ringwood Avenue, Wanaque, Passaic County, New Jersey. The purpose of the hearing is to determine the status of the apparently abandoned properties on four separate parcels of land situated in the Borough of Wanaque. The properties are Block 200.19, Lot 7 (24 Mountain Lakes Drive), Lot 8 (26 Mountain Lakes Drive), Lot 9 (28 Mountain Lakes Drive), and Lot 10 (30 Mountain Lakes Drive.
A drive-by (or windshield) view of the aforesaid properties indicates the structures are abandoned and may be in a state of disrepair.
The hearing will be conducted to gather information and to determine if the property has been abandoned. The property owner may appear in person or by representative (such as legal counsel, property manager, structural engineer, etc.) to present the status of the property and provide any reason why the property may appear abandoned but is NOT. The opinion of the property owner is of paramount concern.
Borough officials may present information regarding the property conditions, the status of any certificate of occupancy, and the status of any building permits as well as any other pertinent information. The public is also permitted to provide information as to the properties. Any documents or photographs that are referenced will be entered into the hearing record.
If, after considering all information and facts, any property is found to be abandoned AND unfit for occupancy or detrimental to the public health, safety, or welfare, a remedy to correct the deleterious property condition(s) will be made to the Borough of Wanaque Mayor and Council.
