NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING, ANNUAL MEETING, AND ELECTION SPACKENKILL UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Board of Education will hold a budget hearing on May 5, 2026, at 6:30 PM. The purpose of said hearing will be for the discussion on the expenditure of funds and the budgeting thereof for the 2026/2027 school year.
AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN, pursuant to the provisions of Section 2004 of the Education Law of the State of New York, that an annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM in the Spackenkill High School at which time a vote of the qualified voters of the Spackenkill Union Free School District will be held on:
1) The appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for school purposes for the 2026/2027 school year;
2) Any other propositions involving the expenditure of money or authorizing the levy of taxes; and
3) The election of one member of the Board of Education.
AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the District Clerk not later than April 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Such petition shall be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer, shall state the name and residence of the candidate, and shall describe the specific vacancy on the Board of Education for which the candidate is nominated, which description shall include at least the length of the term of the office and the name of the last incumbent, if any. There is one seat open for the Board of Education; beginning July 1, 2026, and expiring June 30, 2031. Petition forms for nomination may be obtained at the School District Office, 15 Croft Road, Poughkeepsie, New York, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM weekdays.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots and early mail ballots for the Annual Meeting, Election, and Budget Vote may be obtained at the Office of the District Clerk, 15 Croft Road, Poughkeepsie, New York, or on the District’s website (www.spackenkillschools.org). Applications for absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days prior to the Election and Vote (by May 12, 2026) if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or by the day before the Election and Vote (May 18, 2026), if the ballot will be picked up personally by the voter or their designee.
Qualified military voters may request a military absentee ballot application from the District Clerk during regular business hours, and may indicate their preference to receive a military absentee ballot application via mail, facsimile, or electronic mail. Absentee ballots for military voters shall be administered in accordance with the provisions of Section 2018-d of the Education Law and Part 122 of the Commissioner’s Regulations. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received in the Office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 PM on the day of the Election and Vote, May 19, 2026.
A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots and early mail ballots have been issued will be available in the office of the District Clerk, 15 Croft Road, Poughkeepsie, New York, on each of the five days prior to the day of election except Sunday or holidays, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM weekdays, and BY APPOINTMENT FROM 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
AND NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN, pursuant to Section 1716 of the Education Law of the State of New York, that a copy of the statement of the amount of money, which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, together with the text of any resolution which will be presented to the voters, as well as the Exemption Report, listing every type of exemption granted, as provided in Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law, may be obtained by any resident in the District during the fourteen days immediately preceding the annual meeting and election, except Saturday, Sunday, or holidays, at the District Office, 15 Croft Road, Town of Poughkeepsie, New York, and at each schoolhouse in the District, between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Eastern Daylight Saving Time.
