Shawnee Valley - Stage 1B Sewage Facilities Planning Public Notice
In accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection regulations, Section 71.53(d)(6) of PA Code, Title 25, Act 537, the Township of Smithfield is accepting comments for the next thirty (30) days on the proposed adoption of a PA DEP Sewage Facilities Planning Module that will revise the Smithfield Township Act 537 Official Sewage Facilities Plan.
Notice is hereby given that an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for the approval of a Sewage Facilities Planning Module for the Shawnee Valley – Stage 1B Residential Development in the Township of Smithfield, Monroe County has been prepared by Ebert Engineering, Inc. on behalf of Shawnee Sun Mountain, LLC.
Shawnee Sun Mountain, LLC is proposing a residential development, Shawnee Valley - Stage 1B, consisting of seventy-one (71) single-family homes, twenty-two (22) sixplexes (132 attached homes), ten (10) fiveplexes (50 attached homes), one (1) eightplex (8 attached homes) totaling two hundred and sixty-one (261) edus, and a proposed on-site pump station located on Lot No. 166. The property is approximately 197.52 acres of wooded areas and is identified as tax parcel number 16-3-1-19-1 Shawnee Valley Stage 1B is located along Shawnee Valley Drive and Hollow Road in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.
The proposed method of sewage disposal for Shawnee Valley - Stage 1B is connection to the Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC) owned Public Sanitary Sewer System located in Smithfield Township. Each of the single-family homes and groups of attached homes will require one (1) grinder pump station each. Therefore, there will be one hundred and four (104) grinder pump stations total within the development. The wastewater from each home will flow via gravity sanitary sewer lateral to the individual grinder pump stations. The grinder pump stations will connect into the proposed Low-Pressure Sanitary Sewer Collection System via low-pressure sanitary sewer service laterals. The Low-Pressure Sanitary Sewer Collection System will convey two hundred and sixty-one (261) EDUs to a proposed on-site pump station. The proposed pump station will convey the wastewater to the southeast portion of the development and tie into the existing Goldsmith Pump Station force main located along Hollow Road. The wastewater will then be conveyed via the Goldsmith Pump Station force main to the PAWC owned Interceptor Pump Station. The Interceptor Pump Station will ultimately convey the wastewater to the PAWC owned Shawnee Inn STP for treatment and disposal under NPDES No. PA0061786.
The purpose of this notification is to inform the public of the following:
The proposed sewage facilities include a low-pressure sanitary sewer system, submersible style on-site pump station, and a permitted capacity rerate of the Interceptor Pump Station which will require a PADEP Water Quality Management (Part II) Permit.
There is a 30-day period during which the Sewage Facilities Planning Module and Land Development Plans are available to be viewed at the Smithfield Township Municipal Building. The review period shall extend until the close of business on the thirtieth day after the date of this public notice.
