LEGAL NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the Annual Budget Hearing of the West Canada Valley Central School District #2, Towns of Fairfield, Herkimer, Manheim, Newport, Norway and Schuyler, Herkimer County and Deerfield, Oneida County, for residents qualified to vote will be held in the High School Library, Newport, New York, as well as streamed live on the District’s website: www.westcanada.org on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Notice is further given that voting on the proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year, the election of two (2) trustees to the Board of Education and the following propositions will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the lobby of the High School, Newport, New York. Notice is also given that a copy of the Statement of Expenses and the tax exemption report are available at the school, on the school district website: www.westcanada.org, at the Middleville Free Library and the Newport Free Library for any taxpayer (14) fourteen days immediately preceding the annual meeting. PROPOSITION # 1 SHALL the Board of Education of the West Canada Valley Central School District be authorized to: (1) acquire three (3) large school buses and one (1) small bus, at a cost not to exceed $641,287, which is estimated to be the maximum cost thereof; (2) expend such sum for such purpose; (3) levy the necessary tax therefore, to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education in accordance with Section 416 of the Education Law, taking into account state aid and trade-in values; and (4) in anticipation of the collection of such tax, issue bonds, notes and/or installment purchase contracts of the District at one time or from time to time in the principal amount not to exceed $500,337, and levy a tax to pay the interest on said obligations when due? PROPOSITION # 2 SHALL the Board of Education of the West Canada Valley Central School District be authorized to levy a tax increase in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000) for the Newport Free Library? This would increase the library’s annual budget allotment from fifty-seven thousand dollars ($57,000) to sixty-two thousand dollars ($62,000). This shall be considered an annual appropriation for the Newport Free Library until changed by further vote and such tax shall be levied and collect yearly. Voter Qualifications are: Citizen of the United States, Eighteen years of age, Resident within the district for a period of 30 days prior to the election/vote. Acceptable proof of residency is: County voter registration, valid driver’s license indicating residence address location, Public Utility bill indicating residence location. The following vacancies on the Board of Education are to be filled: names of the last incumbents, 2 (two) seats for a term of 3 (three) years, Alisa Brewer, & Edwin Schatzel. Absentee Ballots may be obtained upon submittal of application to the District Clerk seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
