Georgia Department of Transportation
Provides Project Updates and Opportunity for Feedback
For P.I. Nos. 0017414, 0017415
Chatham County
The Georgia Department of Transportation is notifying the public on the proposed projects and providing comment opportunity on a request for a de minimis finding for impacts to Fort Pulaski National Monument. We appreciate your participation in this process.
The projects propose to replace the bridges over Bull River and Lazaretto Creek. Previously, both bridges and the connecting causeway were part of a single project (PI 0010560). Since the previous outreach in 2019, the GDOT has decided to advance the bridge replacement projects ahead of the causeway, which has been assigned a new project number (PI 0017416). The bridge replacements have been assigned their own project numbers as PI 0017414 and PI 0017415. The projects propose to improve travel on SR 26/US 80 by replacing the bridges over Bull River and Lazaretto Creek with new structures that include paved shoulders and a barrier-separated multi-use path. Traffic will be maintained throughout construction in a phased approach, with the new alignment shifted to the south at Bull River and to the north at Lazaretto Creek.
