HYDRANT FLUSHING
LEGAL NOTICE
TOWN WIDE HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE
As part of our ongoing effort to improve water quality, the Water Division will conduct its Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing Program beginning on Sunday September 21, 2025. Flushing will begin in the area of Reeves Hill Tank on Old Connecticut Path. Flushing will begin on main roads (such as Old Connecticut Path and Cochituate Road) then will transition to secondary roads and dead ends once the main roads have been cleaned. Fire Hydrant Flushing is expected to last for approximately 4 weeks.
Fire Hydrant Flushing will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00pm and 5:00am Sunday – Thursday to minimize the impact to our customers. Some customers may experience discolored or “rusty” looking water. The discolored water is caused by naturally occurring iron minerals that are disturbed during the flushing process. These non-health threatening minerals may cause staining of laundry and plumbing fixtures.
Flushing updates will be provided on the DPW website and in DPW Facebook posts. If you have any questions, please contact the DPW office at 508-358-3672.
Sincerely,
Don Millette
