NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Public Hearing will be held by the Town of Grand Rapids Town Board on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. at the Town of Grand Rapids Town Hall, 2410 48th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids to consider proposed amendments and solicit citizen input on the following Town of Grand Rapids Zoning Ordinance change(s):
A recommendation, by the Town of Grand Rapids Plan Commission, and Town of Grand Rapids Legislative Committee to amend the Town of Grand Rapids Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 52 of the Municipal Code of the Town of Grand Rapids, Wood County, Wisconsin, summarized as follows:
Amend Ordinance Section 52.3(J)(6) of the Zoning Ordinance, amending when a Portable Storage Container (PSC) is allowed during construction periods in Residential Districts, as follows:
During construction of a dwelling or accessory building, one (1) PSC may be placed on a lot subject to issuance of a permit. The permit shall specify that the PSC must be removed within thirty (30) days of the completion of the final inspection.
Amend Ordinance Section 52.2, adding Definitions of:
Ground-Mounted Solar Energy System, Roof-Mounted Solar Energy System, Solar Collector, Solar Energy System, Solar Hot Air System, and Solar Hot Water System.
Create Ordinance Section 52.3(O), Solar Energy Systems, governing small scale solar installations.
It is the purpose of this Section to ensure the siting, construction and operation of Solar Energy Systems is adequate for protecting the health, safety and general welfare of the Town and in furtherance of the goals in the Town of Grand Rapids Comprehensive Plan. This ordinance is enacted to promote best practices in solar planning standards, including encouraging sustainable design, in a manner that minimizes adverse community impacts without significantly increasing the cost or efficiency of the proposed system, or which permits an alternate system of comparable cost or efficiency, per Wis. Stat. 66.0401.
Amend Ordinance Section 52.3(J)(7), Accessory Uses and Structures, amending driveway spacing requirements from side or rear lot lines, as follows:

Driveways are not permitted within five (5) feet of any side or rear lot line.
A complete copy of the proposed ordinance can be viewed or obtained (for the normal records request fee) after September 23, 2025, at the Town Municipal Building. All interested parties are invited to attend said hearing and be heard. After the public hearing, the Town Board will consider the proposed amendments.
