NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, TO APPROVE A ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT TO MODIFY TITLE 25 (ZONING) OF THE PALM DESERT MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADD SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL AND DAY CARE CENTERS AS AN ALLOWED LAND USE TYPE AND FINDING THE PROJECT IS EXEMPT FROM FURTHER ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ACT
The City of Palm Desert (City), in its capacity as the Lead Agency for this project and pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), has determined the project to be exempt from further environmental review pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section §15061(b)(3).
PROJECT LOCATION: Citywide
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is a Zoning Ordinance Amendment to amend Chapter 25.18 of the Palm Desert Municipal Code to allow single family residential and day care centers in the Downtown Edge-Overlay (DE-O) zoning district. The project will affect the approximately 226± acres of land in the City of Palm Desert that is currently designated City Center/Downtown.
PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: At its regular meeting on July 15, 2025, the City of Palm Desert Planning Commission adopted a resolution recommending the City Council approve of the project.
PUBLIC HEARING: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, will hold a Public Hearing at its meeting on October 23, 2025. The City Council meeting begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 73510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California. Pursuant to Assembly Bill 2449, this meeting may be conducted as a hybrid meeting allowing public access via teleconference or in person. Options for remote participation will be listed on the Posted Agenda for the meeting at https://www.palmdesert.gov/connect/city-council.
COMMENT ON THIS APPLICATION: Those wishing to comment on this application may either appear in person at the public hearing or submit written comments, which must be received by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the hearing. Written comments should be sent to the City of Palm Desert at 73510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California 92260, Attention: City Clerk, or emailed to: CouncilMeetingComments@palmdesert.gov.
Any challenge of the proposed project in court may be limited to raising only those issues raised at the public hearing described in this notice or in written correspondence delivered to the City Clerk at or prior to the public hearing. (Government Code Section 65009[b][2]).
