School District of South Milwaukee
Minutes of Regular School Board Meeting
September 17, 2025
The school board meeting was called to order in open session by President Williams at 6:30 p.m. Roll call indicated all were present.
IV. Superintendent's Report and Recognitions
Student Recognitions:
Mr. Udovicic updated the school board regarding the student athletes who excelled in spring sports. In particular, he recognized Ken'Niya Williams for her performance in track last year. Students from the National Honor Society and First Robotics Team were also recognized for all of their accomplishments.
We appreciate our student leaders in these areas and thank our advisors for their commitment to our students.
Ms. Roemer provided the following updates to the School Board:
The South Milwaukee Police Department has made us aware that on Friday, at 6:45 p.m., the American Legion Honor Guard will fire three volleys outside Pat's Oak Manor on 15th Avenue in honor of a veteran who has passed away. We are grateful to the veteran for their service and are happy to know that the individual will be honored.
This planned ceremony will happen just before the start of our homecoming football game at 7 p.m. in Bucyrus Stadium, and we want our community to know where the sound is coming from and that it is a planned and supervised activity in our community.
South Milwaukee High School is happy to announce that we will be holding a career and college fair for our students on Wednesday October 15, 2025 from 8:00am-11:00am. Our HS team is looking for businesses to be represented at our fair.
A table will be provided to all community members, college & military reps.
Our students will make their way through the fair one grade level at a time, stopping to talk with representatives at the tables they are most interested in.
Students will be provided a list of the businesses, colleges and military branches that will be represented at the fair ahead of time, as well as some example questions to help guide your conversations.
It is Homecoming week! We are again hosting a parade and community bonfire on Thursday. We have implemented some new safety measures for this year. The event is intended to be just for the South Milwaukee community, so we will not be allowing students from other schools to attend. SDSM students will need to show their identification or the home page from their Infinite Campus account. We will also have fencing around the area so staff can more closely monitor the event, and lighting along the forest.
Chick-Fil-A will also have a food truck there selling items. A portion of the proceeds will go to Student Senate. Many thanks to our high school team, the SMPD, and the SMFD for the collaboration to plan for a successful event.
We have a proposal that has been accepted for the WASB convention in January. Our session is entitled
One Vision, Many Voices: Concerts as Community Catalyst. Attendees will learn how music educators, school leaders, and community partners collaborated to build an inclusive, immersive experience that drew in families, civic leaders, alumni, and local organizations—from inside school walls to far beyond city limits. Discover how creative standards based curriculum, student voice, and the arts can build lasting community support for public education. We are very excited and want to thank Aimee Swanson for her work to put the presentation proposal together!
