Public Notice: The Maricopa County Municipal Water Conservation District Number One (MWD) is soliciting Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) from Construction Management at Risk firms to provide construction services for Beardsley Canal Check and Turnout Structures. The proposed project will be constructed at the intersection of 147th Avenue and the MWD Beardsley Canal. The Beardsley Canal Check and Turnout Structures project includes the construction of new facilities for MWD and is located just west of 147th Avenue and approximately one-half mile south of Happy Valley Road on the Beardsley Canal. This project consists of constructing the following elements for Maricopa Water District (MWD); one precast concrete Check Structure (9 pieces), two precast Turnout Structures, and two precast Flow Measurement Structures. The Check Structure includes three, 6-ft wide x 4-ft tall fabricated rectangular gates, reinforced concrete inlet and outlet slabs / cutoff walls, and concrete canal lining transitions both upstream and downstream. The turnout structures have 30-in canal gates. All of the irrigation gates will be automated with electronic actuators, remote SCADA control, bulkheads, and will be solar / battery powered. These new structures are part of a City of Surprise project to construct a new ground water rechange basins both north and south of the Beardsley Canal. Construction activities within the Beardsley Canal will be limited to MWD’s dry-up period between December 2025 through February 2026. As part of this project there will need to be an irrigation bypass element or temporary canal modifications upstream to protect the construction area from flooding and nuisance flows during winter storm events in the Beardsley Canal.
