PLANNING BOARD OF THE CITY OF PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY
PUBLIC HEARING ON A NON-CONDEMNATION AREA IN NEED OF REDEVELOPMENT INVESTIGATION
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on November 6, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., the City Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing to consider whether to recommend to the City Council that the property identified as Block 112, Lots 7 (656 South 2nd Street) and 8 (658-60 South 2nd Street) on the Tax Maps of the City of Plainfield, along with all streets and rights of way appurtenant thereto (the “Study Area”) should be designated as a Non-Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment, in accordance with the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1 et seq. (the “Redevelopment Law”) which authorizes municipal governing bodies to designate certain areas of the municipality as being in need of redevelopment.
You have a right to be heard at the public hearing. Any interested party may appear at the public hearing and participate in the public hearing, in accordance with the rules of the Planning Board. The area in need of redevelopment investigation report prepared by Nishuane Group and a map depicting the boundaries of the Study Area are on file with the City Clerk and are available for inspection during normal business hours.
Once the Planning Board has made its recommendation, the City Council will consider whether to designate the Study Area as an area in need of redevelopment by resolution pursuant to the Redevelopment Law. Such a determination shall operate as a finding of public purpose but does not authorize the municipality to exercise the power of eminent domain to acquire the Study Area. A redevelopment area so designated shall be referred to as a “Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area.”
The Plainfield Planning Board Meeting currently scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on November 6, 2025, and will be held at the City Hall Library, 515 Watchung Avenue, Plainfield, New Jersey.
