NOTICE TO BIDDERS
Hunting and Fishing Lease
By virtue of and in conformity with the provisions of L.R.S. 41:1211 through 41:1222, sealed bids will be receivedup to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and publicly opened and read aloud at the office of the Lafourche Parish School Board, Business Complex at 701 East 7th Street, Thibodaux, Louisiana 70301, for the leasing of hunting and fishing privileges on the following described lands lying and being situated in the Parish of Lafourche, Louisiana, to-wit:
All of Section 16, Township 20 South, Range 24 East (Bay Des Ilettes area) Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, specifically described as follows: All of the section containing 292.04 acres, more or less. A map of the property can be obtained by contacting Mr. Lee Bloch at (225) 266-4626.
The term of said lease(s) shall not exceed five (5) years, and the annual rental shall be payable in cash annually in advance. All lands under 5-year lease shall be advertised for bids the following year unless the annual rental is paid on or before the due date, which in this instance shall be the first day of June each year. The School Board in this case has set a minimum bid of $2.60 per acre.
The lease shall be subordinate to oil, gas, and mineral leases previously granted or to be granted; and the Lessor may without violating the surface hunting lease, authorize exploration by any method, including but not limited to geophysical and geological explorations for formations or structures, and prospecting and drilling for mining and producing minerals.
This agreement can be terminated by Lessor or Lessee upon 60 days’ written notice prior to the anniversary date of the lease. Penalties may apply for early termination under certain circumstances.
All bids are to be addressed to the Lafourche Parish School Board, Attention: Mr. John Cheramie, 701 East 7th St., Thibodaux, LA 70301, marked “HUNTING AND FISHING LEASE, with the section, township, and range” on the envelope. Bids may be hand delivered, in which instance a receipt shall be given to the bidder; or bids may be sent by registered mail. Bids sent by regular mail will not be accepted.
Cash payment or a certified or cashier's check, or teller’s check, or an official check issued by a bank in favor of the Lafourche Parish School Board for the amount of the annual rental for the first year shall accompany and be deposited with the bid (no checks other than types noted above are acceptable) and the rental thus deposited shall be forfeited to the Board as liquidated damages if the successful bidder fails to enter into a written contract in accordance with his bid within ten (10) days after acceptance by the Board at its meeting on December 3, 2025. Bids must be for the entire property advertised.
Successful bidders must maintain $1,000,000 of liability insurance at all times during the term(s) of this lease. Further, Lessee shall provide a Certificate of Insurance as evidence that such liability insurance is in force, along with the following endorsements: Lessor as “Additional Insured” and a 30 day Notice of Cancellation.
Bidders are advised that no school board lease shall cover a larger area than 640 acres of school land, nor will a Lessee be permitted to own more than one such lease at a time. No lease shall be assigned, subleased, or otherwise transferred by the original Lessee.
All bidders must be eligible to contract with the Lafourche Parish School Board in accordance with the provisions of R.S. 42:1101, et seq. Ineligible bidders will be disqualified and/or any lease entered into shall be null and void upon discovery of ineligibility.
Further information regarding the above land, its location, etc. may be obtained from the office of the Lafourche Parish School Board; and the said board reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities.
