Georgia Department of Transportation To Hold A Location and Design Public Information Open House For P.I. No. 0019699 Chatham County   The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is placing project information for review and feedback into an internet platform and at an in-person Public Information Open House (PIOH) to allow the public to review and comment on the proposed project. The proposed project is a series of improvements along United States (US) 80/State Route (SR) 26 between Lazaretto Creek and Tybrisa Street in the City of Tybee, Tybee Island, to address the frequency and severity of vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle crashes. A number of alternatives are being considered and a preferred alternative may include a combination of the following: (1) a three lane configuration (two travel lanes inbound and one travel lane outbound) with a grassed median or a center two-way left turn lane, a shared use path, and parallel parking; (2) a two lane configuration (one travel lane in each direction) with a grassed median or a center two-way left turn lane, a cycle track, and parallel parking; and (3) a two lane configuration (one travel lane in each direction) with a center two-way left turn lane, shared use path, and reverse angle parking. The purpose of this Location and Design Public Information Open House is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project and potential alternatives, ask questions, and comment on the project. At this PIOH, project handouts will be provided to attendees and conceptual layouts will be available. Attendees will be able to ask questions of project staff and submit comments. A court reporter will be available at the meeting to allow individuals an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project. The in-person PIOH will be held on December 8, 2025, at the Tybee Island YMCA Gymnasium, located at 204 5th Street, Tybee Island, GA 31328 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no formal presentation.
