PUBLIC NOTICE
Federal Law P.L.99 499 was enacted in October of 1986 by the United States Congress to protect and inform all citizens of the existence of hazardous chemicals that may be manufactured, stored, distributed, or used in the community. Public Law 99 499 is the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act of 1986. This law is commonly referred to as SARA/Title III.
Information pertaining to these hazardous chemicals and their locations is available for public inspection and review, at the Wood County Emergency Management Office located at 400 Market Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Relevant requests for review will be allowed between the hours of 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Monday through Friday by appointment only on regular business days. Information available includes lists of facilities reporting, material safety data sheets, inventory forms of chemicals, emergency response plans if they have been developed and filed, along with follow up emergency notices of releases from facilities within the county.
Telephone inquiries as to specific information contained in these files will not be accepted. Copies of the documents may be made at the expense of the requester and at rates established by Wood County. Information available is limited to the compliance aspects of P.L.99 499, and does not include all chemicals that may pose a potential threat to humans, animals, or the environment.
