Ordinance No. 25-07
Ordinance No. 25-07, an ordinance allowing the police department to impound vehicles used in the commission of reckless driving, was adopted by the Village Board on November 17. A summary of the ordinance includes 2025 Wisconsin Act 46 allowing Wisconsin municipalities to enact ordinances allowing police to immediately impound vehicles used in reckless driving, even for first-time offenders or if the driver isn't the owner, ending previous restrictions. The act permits holding the vehicle until all owner's outstanding fines/fees are paid, but requires officers to check for stolen status, releasing stolen cars fee-free to their owners. This provides local governments with more tools to deter dangerous driving by adding immediate consequences like towing costs and storage fee. The complete text of Ordinance No. 25-07 is available at the Village Clerk's office at the Brown Deer Village Hall.
