The regular meeting of the Lafourche Parish Fire Protection District Number Three Board of Commissioners was held on Tuesday, January 26, 2026. The meeting took place at the Lafourche Parish Fire District 3 Training Building in Cut Off. Chairman Reggie Pitre called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. PLEDGE TO THE AMERICAN FLAG: Chairman Pitre led the pledge to our flag. ROLL CALL OF COMMISSIONERS: Chairman Reggie Pitre–Present; Vice-Chairman Dean Savoie–Present; Commissioner Morris Guidry–Absent; Commissioner Aaron Montez–Absent; Commissioner Troy Dufrene–Present. APPROVAL OF BOARD MEETING MINUTES: Commissioner Savoie moved to accept the minutes of the November 18, 2025, Regular Board Meeting, as written, seconded by Commissioner Dufrene. No public comments. Vote held: Commissioner Savoie–Yea; Commissioner Dufrene-Yea; Commissioner Montez-Absent; Commissioner Guidry- Absent. OLD BUSINESS: Benjamin Rath with CSRS gave Hurricane Ida updates. Demolition of Fire Central started a couple of weeks ago and is almost completed. Electrical at Fire Central is completed, and they are waiting for Entergy to go out and reconnect equipment to fill bottles. Rath also submitted square footage of new building to FEMA and was waiting to hear an answer. He will continue to reach out to FEMA for replacement structure, but plans are currently on hold waiting on FEMA. Rath discussed West Cut Off fire station. Nick Marshall with Chase Marshall architects met with Ryan to see if the building could withstand another hurricane if they just replaced what needs to be replaced or if the whole structure needs to be demolished. The roof and doors need to be changed to withstand wind. Rath is waiting for structure report to move forward with replacing everything. Fire Chief Devin Dedon had a discussion about how he doesn't want to lose any square footage if they have to demolish the building. Rath then discussed South Golden Meadow fire station. He is in constant contact with Entergy. Fire Chief Devin Dedon advised that Entergy had cut power line completely off. Discussion continued about what is happening with that station's rebuild. Rath then discussed Belle Amie Fire Station. There is no more chipping of pavement. Rath advised that Leeville and Port Fourchon fire stations have no updates. Benjamin Rath and LPFD3 team had a call with FEMA this week that did not go well. Rath had a discussion with management at FEMA to replace the representative that we are currently working with. FEMA asked for 30 days to replace representative. Discussion was also held about asking Senator Cassidy and Congressman Steve Scalise to help with community disaster loan forgiveness. NEW BUSINESS: Chief Dedon read Resolution No 2026-0127 in reference to Act 461. This resolution is needed to receive money from the State to help cover a new fire truck. Commissioner Dufrene motioned to approve, seconded by Commissioner Savoie. Public comments: None. Pay App 1 to Outer Limit Contractors was submitted for the demolition of Fire Central in the amount of $100,350. Savoie motioned, seconded by Commissioner Dufrene. Public comments: None. Chief Dedon discussed the purchase of a new Tahoe and a new pickup truck for the department. The money is in the budget for these new vehicles. Dufrene motioned, seconded by Commissioner Savoie. Public comments: None. Vote held: Commissioner Savoie–Yea; Commissioner Dufrene-Yea; Commissioner Montez-Absent; Commissioner Guidry-Absent. An employee requested six weeks of paternity leave. Discussion was held on this topic. Commissioner Savoie wants to know the cost to replace the employee for that time. The board concluded that this issue would need to go to the policy board to review. FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT: We updated our mutual aid agreement with Grand Isle Fire Department. We are receiving new thermal cameras from a grant. There will be multiple trainings held on new cameras. We also received a grant from Firehouse Subs to purchase a new rescue boat. We teamed up with LPSO and LAD to make a public safety cadet class. Chief Dedon held a discussion on this and how the program will work. We will have mentors from our department helping with this new program. T-Carl Danos, Jada Pitre, and Seth Griffin will be the mentors from our department. Discussion continued.
COMMUNICATION'S REPORT: Supervisor Mary St. Pierre advised for December, 334 ambulance calls and 97 fire calls. In the month of January, there were 265 ambulance calls and 84 fire calls. St Pierre discussed a trip to Florida to train on the Motorola CAD system. In March there will be a meeting to get things rolling on the Motorola CAD. MECHANIC'S REPORT: Master Mechanic Ryan Pitre reported that since the November board meeting, he had 63 maintenance reports, 33 work orders, and 5 trucks go in for maintenance. He went into detail about what he is trying to fix at this time. Pitre also discussed weather conditions and how they are keeping the trucks rolling. Chief Dedon discussed how they want to change the doors on the South Golden Meadow temporary station and how much that will cost. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Received a letter from the office of state examiner that Mr. Todd Dufrene's term will be expiring on the Civil Service Board. Todd would like to stay on the board. Motion by Commissioner Dufrene to keep Todd Dufrene on the Civil Service Board, seconded by Commissioner Savoie. Vote held: Commissioner Savoie–Yea; Commissioner Dufrene-Yea; Commissioner Montez-Absent; Commissioner Guidry-Absent. Chairman Pitre hopes that everyone has a prosperous year and keep their heads up. Commissioner Montez: Absent. Chief Dedon received a letter from the Civil Service Representative Seth Griffin to give to the board to review and discuss. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Elliot Day, a candidate for Lafourche Parish President, came to give support to the department and give everyone some information about himself. Martin Wade also wanted to thank the first responders that responded to a call recently with a mentally ill patient. Wade also discussed HAM radio and a 24-hour test on the radios. Commissioner Dufrene moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:13PM, seconded by Commissioner Dufrene.
