Combined Sewer Overflow Notification Program
With as little as a quarter inch of rain, combined sewers in certain parts of West Lafayette can overflow, sending untreated storm water and sewage into the Wabash River. At the beginning of 2004 The West Lafayette Wastewater Treatment Utility created the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Public Notification Program to notify interested residents when overflows are likely to occur, to educate the public about health hazards associated with raw sewage in our waterways, and to enable residents to protect themselves and their families from these hazards.
Persons can sign up for electronic notifications of CSO’s. These alerts will be updated and distributed after a CSO event.
The City of West Lafayette WWTU is committed to reducing CSO events. For more information on CSO’s or to sign up for notification visit our web site at www.westlafayette.in.gov
